Rose Quartz and Serenity | Pantone 2016 Colour of The Year

We believe it’s always good to draw inspiration from the things around us – it leads to fresh outlooks and ideas, and when it comes to specifics like design and fashion, we love how inspiration lends itself to having fun in the most creative ways.

One source of inspiration that we chatted about last year was specific to colour, and comes from the well renowned PANTONE® institute. Each year, experts put forward what they term the colour of the year – and this year is extra special; instead of one colour, it is an amalgamation of two soft hues that dictate a tone to be set for the year ahead.

Rose quartz and Serenity are the chosen colours for the year– the name alone suggests calm and tranquility, while the feeling is enhanced even more once the colours are viewed together. It is a vast change from the bold and rich Marsala of 2015; in the midst of a world that is full of chaos and confusion, it seem fitting that the 2016 colours are far more soothing and softer in nature.

Joined together, Rose Quartz and Serenity demonstrate an inherent balance between a warmer embracing rose tone and the cooler tranquil blue, reflecting connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace.

We’ve put together some of our favorite images sourced online where the use of these two colours create an amazing, almost ethereal feel; both in design and fashion.

Personally, we adore the fluidity of these two colours together. They work so well no matter what the season; for us Southern Hemisphere girls and our upcoming Winter 2016 season, we are too excited for the calm, light and fresh look that the hues give off – it’s got us dreaming of luxurious baby pink coats or a pair of magnificent powder blue pumps!

With any trend or inspiration, you can dictate how much or little you want to incorporate into your own style and home – and it is especially true with these two shades; whether its a complete re-paint of a wall in your home, or just a new nail polish to mimic this trend, we would love to know your thoughts on these colours, and how you would like to bring these into your everyday life?

The great NO-SHOP challenge

Say what?!?

Yes, dear Spruce reader, I am embarking on a “no-shop challenge” until April. Over the past year, I have come to the realization that I probably own way too many clothes. Don’t get me wrong here: I still think there are probably about 6 things I could think of off the top of my head that I would luuuurve in my cupboard but I’ve actually reached maximum capacity in cupboard space in my house!

So here are the rules:

• No clothes shopping until April.  Should you catch me in a mall on the weekend greedily clutching a Witchery or H&M bag; please report me!
• No shoe purchases until April. No heels, no pumps, no “these were on sale shoes”.
• No accessories purchases. Gulp!

Apart from the wardrobe space conundrum I find myself in, I also think it will be beneficial for me to re-evaluate what really lurks in my wardrobe before buying more. I am already three-and-half weeks into my ‘cleanse’ and already am considering different options of what to wear to the office; it will certainly be interesting to see how I am feeling about this pledge come March.

The largest part of why I am killing the shopping for the next few months is really to help me save some moola as the building of our new house commences this month (eeeeeek!). Moreover, in wanting to live a simpler life it surely means de-cluttering… and getting rid of what I don’t need in my wardrobe. So here goes – three full months of no shopping; let’s see if I can make it!

P.s I tried to convince Ilaria to join me on this challenge – she intelligently declined – which made me think: Am I mad??? So tell us what you would do, by voting in the poll below:
