As the old saying goes – when one door shuts, another one opens – has never been more true to us than last week. We had intended on attending the Nicci Boutiques winter launch on Tuesday in Hyde Park but unfortunately, work and traffic stress got the better of us on the day, meaning we had to cancel at the last minute and we were left a blog post short for the coming week 🙁

However, the very next day Sam received a call from Jo Malone inviting her and a friend to do a Fragrance Discovery in store on the weekend. Of course, we obliged!

The fragrance discovery is designed to introduce newbies (like us) to Jo Malone’s range of colognes, and assist in creating a bespoke scent.

Sasha and Zelda (probably two of the most fabulous and knowledgeable shop assistants ever) welcomed us and offered us coffee before starting the indulgent twenty minute hand massage. The massage begins with a vigorous scrub of the hands and forearms (using the sugary deliciousness of the Vitamin E scrub), washed down in a hand and body wash and then rinsed off with body oil infused water. We both tried the Red Roses bath oil and LOVED it. It smelt as luxurious as a bath-full of red rose petals.

The next step was the hand and arm massage with ultra-rich body crèmes. In making your own tailored scent the layering process is the key; this involves using a body crème to enrich the cologne, making the scent fresher or warmer by adding a different crème to the cologne.

Ilaria found her combination on the day – the Peony & Blush Suede cologne paired with the Wood Sage and Sea Salt body crème. I don’t know how Sasha managed to get it so right after meeting Ilaria for only 5 minutes but it was literally the most perfect scent for her!

This was absolutely the most wonderful way to spend a Sunday morning – we feel like we could have spent hours browsing the shop, sniffing all the scents and gawking at the beautiful packaging.

If you are looking for a new scent, or perhaps a wonderful gift for someone special, why don’t you pop by the Jo Malone shop in Hyde Park Corner; you won’t regret it!

Whatever your weekend plans, we hope they are fabulous! We will be at the Celebration of Bubbles on Saturday afternoon at the Inanda Club, which promises to be absolutely delightful. 🙂
