To say things have been a bit crazy for both of us is probably an understatement: it feels like our worlds have been thrown into chaos and the whole ‘too much to do, too little time’ is holding true! Let’s just take a moment to reflect on the fact that it is now the 1st of June….

In the midst of all craziness, we both try make an effort to appreciate the small and good distractions that come our way as part of this blog. One such good thing, recently, was the celebration of our dear friend Steve’s thriving Instgram account: thejoburgfoodie.

To celebrate his 10 000 Instagram followers (10,000!!!!) Steve decided to throw a small bash at the decadent Magnum Pop-up Store in Nelson Mandela Square.

Obviously when the invitation arrived in our inbox, we accepted immediately! Because even though we try our best to be healthy… this is about a custom made piece of heaven!

If you, like us, didn’t brave the crowds at Rosebank in late 2014 to ‘make-your-own’ Magnum, this is what you can expect: creamy, vanilla ice-cream (on a stick) starts off ‘naked’, waiting to be dipped in your choice of white, milk or dark chocolate. From there, three toppings from a selection of gourmet-looking items (Popping candy! Rose petals! Turkish delight!) are shaken and sprinkled over the dipped ice-cream. This is completed by an artistic drizzle of chocolate (again in your choice of white, milk or dark chocolate) before your own creation is presented to you. Snap a photo and enjoy! 🙂

Trust us when we say: this place is worth a visit! Even if the experience lasts only a few minutes, both your heart and stomach will be wearing a smile for the rest of the day.

The interior of the store is luxurious; synonymous with the brand and experience you would expect of Magnum. The store includes a decent amount of seating for customers to relish their masterpieces as well as a linked Instagram photo-printing machine.

A custom–created Magnum retails at R44 (pricey but worth it!); while the store is open from 9am to 8pm daily with extended hours on a Friday and Saturday evening (until 10pm). We are not sure how much longer the store is around for so make sure you make a plan to get there asap; your waist may not, but you will definitely thank us later!

Thanks to the Jo’bug Foodie and Magnum; we hope one day to be celebrating our own Instagram milestone 😉 [P.S. Follow us on Instagram!]
