Learning aside, when I started my Interior Decorating course last year, I never quite thought I would meet a set of people that would end up becoming such good friends of mine.

The older wiser I get; I realize how difficult it can be to find people that you really connect with and become close to. And it is for this reason that I thoroughly appreciate these new additions to my friend family. We made a promise to each other, that even when the course came to an end, we would still organize regular meet ups in and around Joburg.

Last week Sunday we chose a venue that I regard as a bit of a hidden gem – Living Room – situated in the Maboneng Precinct in downtown Jozi.

The venue describes itself as:

A fresh rooftop venue offering Urban-Eco Café Cuisine, Plant Art and Urban Design; a showroom for green design and lifestyle. The venue is a multifunctional visual treat – the perfect spot for a refreshing brunch break, week-day relaxation, Thursday eve sundowners, and a Sunday Soiree!”

I could not agree more. It is one of the most refreshing venues I have had the pleasure of attending in a long time; and it makes it all the more magical having a glorious view of the Jozi CBD from the rooftop of the Main Change Building (try to plan around load shedding times, as those stairs all the way to the top are one sure way to test the fitness levels).

Doors open from 12pm on a Sunday for its famous Sunday Parties, where the atmosphere is super chilled and cool but incredibly vibey. Although relatively small, the menu offers some delicious tapas and platters including tasty Halloumi Sticks and fresh Prosciutto, Melon and Basil Skewers.

The highlight for me however, was the cocktail menu! #obviously

With names like Minty Magic Unicorn, The Fruit Loops and Hello Aloe, not only are the cocktails delicious and refreshing but they definitely put a smile on my face too.

There is always a DJ from about 2pm onwards playing fantastic music and sounds that are not regularly heard on commercial radio – that’s one of the things I really appreciate about this venue as a whole – it almost resembles an oasis in a chaotic and bustling city.

Here are some of the pics I wanted to share with you; I think they are a great depiction of an amazing Summer Sunday afternoon with even more amazing friends.
