For the life of me, I cannot seem to remember how I stumbled onto finding out about Ferguson’s in Illovo but all I remember was thinking “OMG – a rooftop venue a stones-throw away from my house – I HAVE to try it!”
Joburg, as Sam puts it, has no respect for spring and has just gone into full blown summer heat; it certainly makes one want to be outside in the fresh air. Sam, myself and our good friend Ricci were all available to meet up last week for breakfast one morning so we decided to give Ferguson’s a try (refer to opening paragraph).
This eatery is owned by the same people who brought Jozi 4th Avenue Coffee Roasters in Parkhurst and The Fat Zebra in Linden, so these guys have years of experience when it comes to bistro’s and restaurants.
This experience is translated into the delicious food on offer; we were there for breakfast so we have yet to try their popular lunch ‘Harvest Table’ which changes daily (Friday lunch is build-a-burger day) but our meals were delicious!
We ended up spending a good two hours at the table, taking in the exquisite views of Jozi, and the very relaxed and welcoming feel of the space. One of the first questions I asked Sean, the manager, was why they weren’t open on weekends?! 🙁
Sean mentioned that the space is actually hired out as a venue – I should have guessed, given the magnificent setting – so it is perfect for events on summer days and warm evenings. I very quickly spotted fairy lights on the deck so I can just imagine how magical it is when the sun goes down.
If you do work in the Sandton area, and are in need for something a little more refreshing than a boardroom business meeting or lunch at your desk, this is the PERFECT place to come to.
Ferguson’s is on the 5th floor (rooftop) of a newly built office block so you would need to park in the basement parking (entrance on Melville Road), and take the lifts up to the top – the guards are very helpful so if you get lost, just ask 🙂
The actual address is 5th Floor, 35 Ferguson Road, Illovo, Sandton
