A few days ago, Bailey from Vanilla Blonde, tagged us in a ‘me-time’ tag. Here are our answers to some of the questions around the topic.
Ilaria’s Me-Time 1. What do you watch or read during me-time? I try and record a few series on my PVR, so that when I get some me-time, I can just sit and watch for a while. My current favorites are Orange is the new Black and New Girl. If it’s a movie – any type of rom-com goes down very well. I am still trying to finish Shantaram on my kindle, so if I get a good me-time session, this is my current read. 2. What do you wear during me-time? I have the most comfy SpongeBob track top which is usually my go-to item for me-time. My outfit is usually something very loose and very comfy but not too hot. I am also ALWAYS barefoot during me-time. 3. What are your me-time beauty products? A true me-time session would normally consist of a face mask; currently I switch between the Berry Berry Dirty Works mask and the Aesop Parsley and Seed masque. I will also bring out my Soap and Glory body scrub – it’s the most incredible exfoliator and I use it on dry skin, before my bath. I also tend to use a mix of essential oils like rose and lemon grass in my bath – they give off a magnificent, relaxing scent and they make it feel like a true pamper session 4. Current favourite nail polish? I have been trying to focus on doing my own nails lately; having recently purchased these two gorgeous Essie colours – Blanc and Sole Mate. Together with these, my next favorite is the Essence baby pink nail varnish – the wide brush makes it so simple to apply and the colour is subtle and chic. 5. What do you eat/drink during me-time? I love a cup of Lemon and Ginger Tea to help me relax – it’s so delicious too. When it comes to eating; comfort food and me-time go hand-in-hand for me. I tend to munch on anything with carbs. A good plate of pasta – my weakness! 6. Current favourite candle? Candles create such an amazing, relaxing mood and I often light some up. I recently purchased a champagne ginger Kobo soy candle which gives off a clean, fresh scent. I also love my jasmine scented candle – together, the two smells make a beautiful combination. 7. Do you ever have outdoor me-time? I absolutely love fresh air (my eyes despise any form of aircon) and I really wish I had more outdoor me-time, especially next to water. The time that I do spend outdoors is usually at the beautiful James and Ethel Grey Park in Birdhaven. 8. Favourite online shop? At the moment, my favourite has to be Spree – I am so impressed with their increased range, their impeccable service and their interesting and informative style tips. I havn’t used them in a while, but Mr Price online is also a winner in my books. 9. Anything to add? What else do you do during your me-time? I love to browse through sites like Houzz, Polyvore and blogs that I love. I love playing my fashion game – Covet, it keeps me entertained for hours. I also often go through my wardrobe, clean it up a bit and try and work different outfits together. My room then looks like a bomb exploded after these sessions so I try and limit them #imtryingtocuremymessytendancies Sam’s Me-Time 1. What do you watch or read during me-time? If my ‘me-time’ falls on lazy day then I love finding a movie at home to watch – either something my husband generally won’t watch with me (a rom-com, art house, dramas) or a made-for-tv movie [don’t ask me why but I find made-for-tv movies incredibly relaxing]. However, if I am in the middle of a good book, it becomes all about the book – I absolutely love reading, especially chunky sagas. I read ‘The Gold Finch’ in December in less than 3 days; it was the most indulgent, selfish way to spend my few days off over Christmas time. 2. What do you wear during me-time? Hmm – I don’t think this really matters much to me – whatever I happen to be in as long as am I am comfortable and warm/cool enough. 3. What are your me-time beauty products? A good face mask after a long bath – my absolute favourite is the REN Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask followed up the Nimue Super Hydrating Masque (which smells like marshmallows!). I always feel my skin looks so much plumper and rested after this powerful combination. 4. Current favourite nail polish? Two favourites that never go out of style – Tainted Love (Vinylux / Shellac) and Romantique (Vinylux / Shellac). 5. What do you eat/drink during me-time? In the evenings when I have ‘me-time’ and my husband is out it will usually involve glass of wine, Woolies crumbed chicken (with nothing else!) and Chuckles for dessert. During the day me-time is about a cup of coffee and a rusk 🙂 6. Current favourite candle? I have a White Lily and Jasmine Jo Malone candle that automatically helps me unwind – it has the most tranquil scent. I also love lighting my burner, which I drop in a divine lemongrass oil my mom bought for me. The smell always reminds me of being in South East Asia, yoga and massages.
7. Do you ever have outdoor me-time? Yes! I find walking my pugs on a weekend morning very therapeutic, especially after a hectic week. I know Jo’burg can’t compete with Cape Town in terms of natural beauty but our glorious autumn mornings of late really make me grateful to live in such a beautiful part of Johannesburg. I feel invigorated after a walk on a quiet morning in the park. 8. Favourite online shop? Probably Spree – I find myself browsing on here fairly often, although I am not the biggest online shopper. 9. Anything to add? What else do you do during your me-time? It usually involves time with my pugs – they love lounging with me on the couch during my off time. Once a month I make sure I have scheduled myself a pedi; that hour of peace (no cellphone!), a cup of coffee and magazine is such a treat for me!
Thanks for the tag Bailey 🙂 We now tag the lovely ladies (Sally and Kim) from The Saltbox and Candice-Lee from In My Bag. We look forward to seeing how they spend their me-time.
If you have any good tips on how you spend your me-time, please feel free to leave a comment on the post!
Happy Friday, and have a wonderful weekend.
