So let’s just cut to the chase: The 88th Academy Awards took place in LA last night (early hours of the morning), and obviously, the first thing we both started our morning with was a google of the red carpet fashion! And, well, meeeeeeh.
Of course there were some clear cut winners on the night and we will chat about them later, but overall, we felt a little bit let down by “Hollywood’s biggest night”.
This award show is as glam as you can get. So, in our humble opinion: GO BIG or GO HOME! The number of underwhelming looks on the red carpet were too many to mention: but let’s talk about Reese Witherspoon (honestly, sooooooooo boring), Kate Winslet (not sold on the dress, or the dreary locks either), Tiny Fey (zzzzzz), and Sophia Vergara (is this is another iteration on the usual look). These are some of the most powerful ladies in the ‘biz- with probably some of the best agents, stylists and contacts in the industry – and this is what you give us?!
Our selection of best dressed is thus slightly shorter than usual, but we have included our best hair and make-up looks from the night to “make up” for it!
Both Naomi Watts (Armani) and Saoirse Ronan (Calvin Klein) were elegant and sophisticated with these dark jeweled tone dresses.
Charlize Theron (Dior) and Olivia Munn (Stella McCartney) both dazzling in their successful use of colour on the red carpet.
Hints of Flora
Priyanka Chopra’s (Zuhair Murad) crisp white look and Cate Blanchett’s (Armani Prive) softest sea foam green paid homage to nature in the intricate designs.
Best Dressed (again)
Jennifer Lawerence in Dior – once again – our winner on the night. Absolutely breathtaking design and overall look (those platinum locks!!)
Best Hair and Makeup
Margot Robbie – we loved the effortless, California-girl look Margot’s stylist paired with her structured Tom Ford dress.
Other Honorable Mentions (hair and makeup)
Chrissy Teigen: glow girl!
Olivia Wilde: we might not have been made on the choker/dress combination, but the side parted braid/bun wowed!
Rachel McAdams: we luuurve the emerald liner and nude, matte lip colour.
We would love to know what you think – were you, like us, underwhelmed by the dresses on the red carpet? Or did you think we were too harsh in our opinions?
Even if some of the ladies of the red carpet left us feeling slightly disappointed, at least our favourite actor eventually walked off with his gold statue. Congrats Leo!! (P.S we have loved you since Romio + Juliet days… #just staying)
