A monthly collection of five of our favourite things done, seen, tasted, heard, smelt, worn, bought, savoured, enjoyed, touched, liked or loved.

I cannot believe the month of November has come and gone so quickly – it feels like it was yesterday that we were toying with the idea of a favourite five series, and now I find myself writing our second episode already!

My favourite five for November are as follows:

1. Woolworths Panama Hat

When I was in Columbia last year, I purchased the most amazing, authentic Panama hat which I managed to cart halfway across the world without it getting one dent (applause!) This same hat was sitting in the boot of my car when it was stolen earlier this year and it left me almost feeling more upset about the loss of the hat than the car. Since then I’ve been on the hunt for a good looking version, at a reasonable price. (I promise you, finding one that fits my head well and looks decent is not the easiest task). I managed to find this beauty at Woolworths for R199, and it really is an awesome, understated-chic accessory in any woman’s wardrobe.

2. Robin Sprong Wallpaper Collection

So I have officially, as of yesterday, completed my Interior Decorating course and through the year I have come across some of the most wonderful products and suppliers in the industry. I was looking for a specific type of wallpaper for my final project when I stumbled on the amazing Robin Sprong Wallpapers. This Cape Town based company has over 10 years experience in producing exquisite collections, having won numerous design awards over the last few years. If you are looking to add something dynamic and unique to any space, go have a look at their range of beautiful collections.

 3. Escondido Tapas Illovo

Weekend breakfast outings have almost become a ritual for me in the last few months. A couple of weeks ago, through some mis-communication, we actually ended up at the wrong place on a Saturday morning – a tapas bar that doesn’t cater for breakfast. This however, did not stop us from having possibly the best eggs Benedict I’ve had in a very long time. The wonderful owner was completely happy to accommodate us by asking his chefs to whip up something using the ingredients they had on hand. This level of service is really what differentiates the good from the average. Not only does the name Escondido mean “hidden” in Spanish, but the quirkiness of the restaurant, the great food and the wonderful ambiance makes this place a true hidden gem! You can get hold of them on 011 268 0058.

4. Orange is the new black

This is possibly my new favourite series of 2014. It’s one of those that you feel like you shouldn’t be watching but actually, you cant get enough of it! Based on a true story, it’s not glamorous, and its definitely not sugarcoated but its raw, real and addictive and its my mid-week guilty pleasure. It airs every Wednesday on MNet Edge (102) at 9pm.

 5. Macaroon

I am a HUGE lover of stationery, and have followed in my mom’s footsteps of keeping an entire cupboard full of gifting goodies. That is why I have fallen in love with Macaroon – an online personalized stationery supplier priding itself on offering stylish social stationery, with a fresh twist. Earlier this year I ordered some personalized gift tags, and I was so impressed with the quality, service and packaging that I am in the process of ordering more tags for Christmas. Click here to visit their website. This years orders close at midnight on the 30th November, so if you like what you see make sure you place your order before then!
