A monthly collection of five of our favourite things done, seen, tasted, heard, smelt, worn, bought, savoured, enjoyed, touched, liked or loved.
Another favourite five is upon us, and this was a bit of a tricky one – not because I couldn’t think of my favourite things, but because there were far too many to choose from! Nevertheless, here are my top 5 things for Feb…
1. Dear Rae Delicious Monster Ring
This year’s birthday was a big one, and if the next decade is anything like the celebrations, I think I have some wonderful years ahead of me. As you may be getting to know Sam better, you might have realised she has an eye for finer things and she in no way disappoints when it comes to gifting. This is why my unbelievably amazing 30th birthday gift from her is part of my favourite five. This beautiful Gold Delicious Monster Ring from Dear Rae has made its way into my heart. Dear Rae is a refreshing South African jewellery company with designs based on natural lines and simplistic forms. My ring forms part of their lets get tropsi collection, which is inspired by leaves, fresh greens and all things tropical. It is completely different from the run-of-the-mill style ring, and is so “me”! Sam also took into account that my skin causes jewellery to tarnish easily, so she had this ring made in solid 9ct yellow gold. #amazingbestfriend
2. Dirty Works Facial Skincare
Beauty and skincare rules generally work on the notion that the more expensive the product, the better it is for you. More often than not, this is true. Sometimes however, we manage to find great products at great prices that actually work really well. The Dirty Works Facial Skincare range (available at Clicks) does just that. I read a review by one of our much loved blogs, In My Bag, on the 8-in-1 Miracle Cream and I decided to give it a try. At R99, it is one of the best moisturisers I have used! I absolutely love how it melts into my skin, leaving it feeling smooth and plump. The scent is subtle and fresh, and my face just feels wonderful after I’ve applied it. I recently went back to Clicks for round 2, and purchased the Stop Puffy Eyes Eye Cream as well as the Berry Berry Detox Mask. Overall, I’m very impressed at the products and even more impressed at the reasonable prices. I find this UK based product unintimidating and quirky and I’ll definitely be sticking with it for a while.
3. Neat Freak Gift Wrap Organiser
I don’t think I have ever been labelled highly organized, but living in a small space definitely has its way of pushing me into that category (or I like to think). As mentioned in my previous Favourite Five post, I take after my mother when it comes to stationary and gifting goodies. The problem I have is: where to store them all? This changed when I stumbled on the awesome Neat Freak website; Neat Freak are specialists in providing tools that lead to more efficient and organised lives. Apart from their fantastic consulting services, they sell related items on their online store and this is where I found my new Gift Wrap Organiser. Amazing. Proudly, I can now say, I no longer have a messy cupboard full of ribbons, paper, gift bags and what not. Neat Freak is such a great find – they stock a wide range of products and accessories that, if needed, will be sure to make your life a lot more orderly.
4. Cotton On Archy Pullover
Summer seems to be officially over in the retail world – I’ve been noticing all the new autumn/winter collections on display. As much as this saddens me, it’s definitely exciting to see new designs, colours, textures and styles for the upcoming months. Although I should be saving all my pennies for Paris/Madrid, I found a gorgeous pastel pink pullover from Cotton On’s new range of knitwear. Being cool toned, the colour seems to work well on my skin and I believe a good pullover is a must for the A/W season. Pastel colours have remained on trend in the cooler months, and this item acts as a good compliment to any wardrobe. I have to commend Cotton On for their well-priced knits – last year I purchased something similar in black, and my cost-per-wear on it is almost zero (my own justification when it comes to buying things). Make sure you check out the Cotton On stores for their latest range of fabulous on-trend basics.
5. Nikon D3200
I was EXTREMELY spoilt by my family and Steph for my birthday. For a long while, I have been dreaming about a decent camera where I can learn and work towards shooting some wonderful pictures that are a few notches up from my iPhone snaps. This dream came true when my most special people pooled money together to enable me to purchase what I was looking for. I had no clue where to begin with the process, so Steph kindly managed to source some suggestions and recommendations for me. The end result was that, on Tuesday this week, a massive box arrived for me from Orms Direct (so efficient – I would highly recommend) with the exquisite Nikon D3200 inside. The camera is said to be perfect for beginners in the DSLR market; it comes with a 5 year warranty and lots of other hi-tech gadgets that I need to learn how to work. I am hoping to enroll for a beginner’s course so I can use the camera to its full abilities – hopefully in time, you will be able to see some of my learnings on the blog! I have yet to use it, but for now I’m just so excited that it is definitely one of my favourites for this month.
Happy Friday – have a wonderful weekend!
