It might be an old cliché – but starting the year on a clean slate is refreshing and it always offers a sense of hope, optimism and inspiration for what the New Year may bring.

Although each year comes with its ups and downs, Sam and myself both agreed that 2015 will be our year of choosing happiness.

It sounds simple and obvious, but is often easier said than done.

During my family holiday in Plett, numerous debates were held about happiness and what it means to different people – and most importantly how the notion of waiting for things to happen in order to result in happiness is not the way we should live.

It’s about choices, and it’s about consistently and proactively choosing things that add to our sense of fulfillment.

We stumbled on a great article which focuses on simple things to STOP doing in order to truly move forward in a positive light in 2015!

With the topic of happiness in mind, I wanted to share some of the awesome things that took place over my December period – I had the most wonderful holiday, in one of the most beautiful settings in South Africa, surrounded with all the people that I care about most in this world.

Sunset drinks with this background was just magical, and it makes me feel extremely fortunate and blessed to have woken up to this view every day.

Christmas this year was simple yet wonderful – I’m the one in charge of doing the table, the tree and the lights and it was about using what we had in the house. As always, my mom made the most incredible dinner and we spent the evening playing some hilarious charade-style games. The noise levels in the house got so loud, the neighbours commented (my house is not quiet under normal circumstances, so with games in the picture, the decibel levels sky rocket!)

Good friends of mine came down to stay for  a few days which resulted in lots of laughter, many jugs of pimms and lemonade, pasta for days, an amazing spa day treat, one wild new years party and a bunch of slightly hungover humans having fun at the Knysna Lagoon.

On our last day, my brother spoiled us with a boat trip down the Keurbooms River which really was such an incredible experience and is definitely a must do if you ever are in the Plett area – it is inexpensive and beautiful!

I came back to JHB feeling refreshed and ready for what the year holds. We both look forward to sharing our experiences with you in 2015, and hope that it is going to be a fantastic one for all of you.
