If there is one complaint we have in common it is always: I wish I had more volume in my hair!

Spruce’s ongoing situation when it comes to this hair condition:

Products  tried – countless; results obtained – minimal.

Which is why, obviously, we were keen to try out the new Beauty-Full Volume collection of products from TRESemme. The revolutionary product sees conditioner being applied first, followed by a shampoo. The theory behind this innovation is that the conditioner weighs down one’s hair (true, right?) and this creates the flat hair scenario we both suffer from. By conditioning the hair first, and then shampooing, TRESemme believes

The reverse wash system acts in binding the conditioner to the cuticle of the hair, thus softening it for wash, while the shampoo adds the bounce and softness needed for great volume.

TRESemme kindly sent us their new Shampoo (R96.99) and Conditioner (R96.99) duo, along with the Beauty-Full Volume Hair Maximiser (R85.99) and Beauty-Full Volume Mousse (R79.99) so that we could try out the products for ourselves. Along with the gift, was a step-by-step instruction manual for creating one of four looks (Messy Bun, Glam Waves, LOB and Textured Pony) which obviously we were dying to test out for ourselves! (think back to our 2016 resolutions when it came to hair styles?!)

First Impressions

We were both incredibly surprised at how wonderful (Light! Bouncy! Fresh!) our hair felt after the condition and shampoo process was complete.

Sam: I loved the pre-shampoo condition – it made the shampoo step an absolute breeze for me – my ultra fine hair just knots so easily that being able to do the shampoo step with a head of soft hair felt revolutionary!

Ilaria: I have to admit – it felt pretty strange applying conditioner to dirty hair – but the results were amazing! My hair definitely didn’t feel as knotty as usual when I stepped out the shower; it had a light bounce to it even before I added any heat or styling products. The products smelled great too!

Styling Products

We both tend to shy away from styling products on a daily basis – for different reasons – but adding them was such a simple step with a big impact that it made us question why we don’t add it more frequently.

Sam: I added a dollop (probably somewhat over generously) of the Beauty-Full Mousse before beginning to dry my hair. I was expecting my hair to feel “crunchy” after applying the mousse; but instead my hair remained soft and light.

Ilaria: Before applying the mousse, my style required me to massage a coin sized amount of the Beauty-Full Volume Hair Maximiser through my roots – this was a creamy texture, but didn’t make my hair feel too sticky.  I loved the nozzle of the mousse, its texture and again its gorgeous smell (so fresh and clean). I have to echo Sam on this one: my apprehension to mousse was certainly around my hair feeling too stiff but this product did the exact opposite.

Styling

Creating beautiful hairstyles is certainly NOT our forte in life. So would we be able to re create one of the stunning looks created by TRESemme’s stylist Chris Naselli?

Sam: being a first time Mom to a three week old baby meant that I didn’t get the chance to really try out one of the looks properly. I swept my roughly blow dried hair into my version of a messy bun for the day and was so surprised by how soft my hair felt at the end of the day when I brushed it out! Even though I didn’t get the time to try one of these gorgeous styles as yet, I was really impressed by how manageable my hair felt at the end of the day / that never happens!

Ilaria: taking the time to curl my hair with a tong is A LOT of effort for me; my arms get tired, the curls never go the right way, the mirror confuses my sense of direction and after all the effort, my hair tends to last half a day before looking flat. (this is why blow-dry bars are one of Spruce’s favourite things!) This time, I carefully followed the directions of the LOB (Long  Bob) look, and divided my hair into sections. As opposed to blow drying my hair before curling, this time I just rough dried it and went straight into the curls (very little brushing or combing took place). From the first curl, I was amazed at how my hair took to the tong, and the unbelievably bounce of each and every wave. The end result was a voluminous look that still has curls after a full day and night! I am extremely impressed at the amount of volume, the way my hair has stayed styled and most importantly, I dont have that ‘wash it so I can get the product out of my hair’ feel.

Obviously those two paws in the picture helped out with the styling

The Final Verdict

We both agreed that we were properly impressed by the products – particularly the shampoo and conditioner! We loved the extra volume boost and how soft and light we both felt our hair was. Would we buy it? Hell’s yes!

The best part is that one of our readers can now win a fabulous hamper – with all the products mentioned! We will also include the styling tips to help you style some signature looks.

Amazing! I’ve been wondering if it works. Flat hair is the WORST! But so hard to avoid. The answer is loose curls for the LOB.
